Energy transfer in the quenching of singlet molecular oxygen - I. Kinetics of quenching of singlet oxygen

Abstract
Quenching studies have been made in a spherical vessel containing known concentrations of O$_{2}$($^{1}\Delta _{\text{g}}$) and O$_{2}$($^{1}\Sigma _{\text{g}}^{+}$). Rate coefficients for the quenching of O$_{2}$($^{1}\Delta _{\text{g}}$) by CO and of O$_{2}$($^{1}\Sigma $) by N$_{2}$O, D$_{2}$O, NH$_{3}$, C$_{3}$H$_{8}$, C$_{2}$H$_{2}$, HCl and DCl have been determined. Efficient wall deactivation of O$_{2}$($^{1}\Delta $) by adsorbed hydrogen halides was observed.
