Abstract
The melanocytes and keratinocytes of 11 seborrheic keratoses show the following main changes after croton oil irritation or surgical trauma alone: the mealnocytes remain predominantly at the dermo-epidermal junction and do not assume any neoplastic changes; the number of prickle cell type keratinocytes definitely increases while that of immature (basal cell type) keratinocytes decreases within the same lesion; in addition some of the lesions show a change in overall type of growth. No changes reminiscent of non-nevoid melanocytic tumors, such as melanoacanthoma, could be observed after irritation of seborrheic keratoses by either croton oil applications or surgical trauma alone. Keywords
