Abstract
From the kinetics of the reaction of ethylene oxide with aqueous ethanol and methanol, catalyzed by perchloric acid, the relative basicities of water, methanol, and ethanol have been determined. The value of K1 in the expression[Formula: see text]has been found to be 1.2 × 102 for methanol and 2.1 × 102 for ethanol, in good agreement with previous values. Keywords
