The Directional Dependence of Air Samplers

Abstract
Two filtration-type air samplers were tested in turbulent or positive directional air streams to determine if sampling is dependent on orientation of the sampling instrument. Uranium oxide dusts of 0.76, 2, and 3.25 microns median diameters were collected on Whatman #41 filter discs. In turbulent air no bias was found due to orientation. In a directional air stream, a sampler head facing into the air stream collected more dust by a factor of two.
