The growth and performance of the Northern Ireland housing market

Abstract
The complexity of the housing process is discussed in realtion to home ownership levels, the rate of new residential development and the performance of the private market in Northern Ireland where public sector led initiatives have been instrumental in boosting owner occupation levels. The availability of a co‐ownership route to house purchase is one key aspect of housing policy in the province. This has had beneficial effects most notably through the encouragement of a high level of new residential development, however there are also negative impacts of over saturation and market distortion.
