Abstract
The thickness of the medial cortex of the femoral neck does not decrease with age in the same way as other common parameters of bone mass. However, in women with fracture of the upper end of the femur, it is below normal. The variable, expressed as the cortical index of the femoral neck may have some use in predicting the risk of femoral neck fracture from routine films of the hip. Keywords
