Abstract
The spores of P. virginiana require for germination an unknown factor present in yeast extract and some other natural products and also excreted by the growing mycelium of host fungi. Germ tubes of the parasite are attracted to near-by host hyphae which are penetrated and in which branched haustoria are formed. The parasite could not be grown in the absence of a living host fungus. The known host range includes 22 species in 15 genera and 6 families of Mucorales. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
