Abstract
Oxytetracycline (Terramycin) is used to control gaffkemia disease in American lobsters (Homarus americanus) held for commercial sale. A time-consuming zone diffusion residue test is used to ensure that no antibiotics remain in the edible tissue before lobsters are put on the market. The diffusion test was compared with a commercially available Delvotest P procedure – a simple, sensitive test that is used in the dairy industry to detect antibiotic residues in milk samples. The study demonstrated that the Delvotest P procedure can detect antibiotic residues in lobster hemolymph at levels as low as 0.03 μg/mL.Keywords
