Abstract
This paper provides an overview of Canadian corporate joint venture activity for the period 1971 to 1981. A log linear analysis is applied to joint venture pairs of both parent-parent pairs and child-parent pairs. It is shown that the location of the child and parent, the technological level of the child and parent, as well as the type of joint venture (conglomerate, vertical, horizontal) all significantly affect the creation of Canadian joint ventures. The effect of distance or joint venture location is also examined. Strong distance decay effects between parent and child location are seen for conglomerate, vertical, and horizontal ventures.
