Fluspirilene in Schizophrenia

Abstract
Forty patients have been treated for two months with fluspirilene, a new injectable diphenylbutylpiperidine administered intramuscularly once per week. Chronic cases improved satisfactorily and acute cases did rather better, particularly in relation to delusions. When the average dose was low ( 5.4 mg) extra-pyramidal effects were uncommon, but if 12 mg was given, more side-effects were encountered. Two patients on fluspirilene 4 mg weekly had dystonic reactions. If marked hypertension was present, the systolic pressure fell by about 60 mm Hg.
