Abstract
The self-consistency of a vacancy potential in a model of a spherical metal has been checked numerically in order to estimate the accuracy of such self-consistent calculations. Further calculations on the screening around a magnesium ion core indicate that its effect is weak giving only small changes in the free-electron energy spectrum. The application of this result to alloys is discussed. Keywords
