Abstract
Timothy Mitchell's article “The Limits of the State” in the March 1991 issue of thisReviewstimulated an unusual variety of interested comments. John Bendix, Bartholomew Sparrow, and Bertell Ollman offer critiques and suggestions from quite different points of view.
