Abstract
A retrospective analysis was made of the computed tomographic [CT] characteristics of 37 patients with intracranial pyogenic sepsis. Attention is paid to possible reasons for difficulties in the diagnosis of cerebral abscess and subdural empyema. The various aspects of postoperative interpretation are discussed. [Analysis of infections showed that the most common organisms were streptococci which were cultured in isolation in 59% of cases; 68% of these were Streptococcus milleri of the microaerophilic type. Staphylococci and Proteus were also found in isolation, whereas Bacteriodes, Clostridiaum, Klebsiella, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus faecalis and coliforms were found only in mixed cultures.].
