Abstract
Summary: A review of 16 cases of simple vulvectomy performed at The Royal Women's Hospital in the 10‐year period from 1959 to 1968 is presented. This operation finds its place in gynaecology following accurate and thorough diagnostic techniques, and close liaison between gynaecologist and pathologist. In some patients, simple vulvectomy affords the prime method of treatment, although in the majority it falls second to conservative attempts at management which have failed, particularly in the condition of lichen sclerosis et atrophicus. The reported high incidence of recurrence of pathology after simple vulvectomy was not confirmed.
