Abstract
The spotted necked otter (Lutra (Hydrictis maculicollis) were observed in Central Africa where in some lakes (Lake Muhazi, Rwanda), they are still numerous and have a diurnal activity. The time budget, the occupation of the home range, the predatory behaviour and the social behaviours were studied by direct sampling methods of observation. These otters are mainly active before 10 p.m. They exploit intensively the center area of their home range and fish generally alone. They capture with great efficiency small fishes such as Haplochromis spp.
