Abstract
The results of cotton research in Africa are scattered and frequently inconclusive. Different pest control strategies, for example, have been followed in the ex-British and French colonial territories and little account has been taken of the sociological aspects of cotton-growing by peasant farmers. There is now, more than ever, a need for a pan-continental and multi-lingual approach to the problems which surround cotton-growing by the small farmer in tropical Africa.
