Energy Dependence of the Elastic Total Collision Cross Section of Identical Molecules: 4He

Abstract
The velocity dependence of the total collision cross section for velocity‐selected molecular beams of 4He scattered by 4He at 2°K has been measured. Undulations due to the quantum statistics have been resolved between 650 and 1200 m sec−1. Results are compared with exact and approximate calculations and the sensitivity of this effect to potential parameters is discussed. Finally we show the possibility to extract from the data the absolute value of the total collision cross section independently from scattering centers density measurements.Keywords
