Abstract
The effect of the self-diffusion of a Mössbauer active atom, by the vacancy mechanism, on the resonance line shape is studied in several approximations and by direct computer calculation of the motions of the active atom and a vacancy. The results for self-diffusion in simple and body-centered-cubic lattices show that the empty-lattice solution can be used as a first approximation if the jump time is scaled by the Bardeen-Herring correlation coefficient for bulk diffusion. This approximation is correct within about (5 to 10)%.Keywords
