Abstract
The wireless LAN market will enter into a new phase with the availability of two major standards. In this paper we concentrate on the European ETSI standard HIPERLAN. Some key concepts are outlined with a specific focus on frame generation and channel access. We describe major physical layer design challenges and give performance results including coverage of one of the first standards-compliant physical layer testbeds. Keywords
