Abstract
This paper is a report on an investigation of the biological and morphological relations of a number of species of dipterous flies belonging to the genus Rhagoletis (Fam. Trypetidae). If the observations made and the conclusions drawn are valid, it would appear that the practice of separating species on the basis of very slight morphological differences, which may be due to host influences, is unsound. The forms which develop in apple, hawthorn and blueberry, were studied extensively from the standpoint of their relations to their hosts and the conclusions reached are that one species Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh) is involved and that the female insects show a decided preference to oviposit in the host in which they developed as larvae. Keywords
