Abstract
This article presents a critique of the social and political context in which the idea of construct validation developed. Itoutlines the rhetorical as well as the empirical andphilosophical dimensions of the concept Finaly, the essay offers an alternative viewpoint for the conceptulizaton of construct validation and links it to current treatments of the topic by members of the measurement community.Keywords
