Electrothermal atomisation atomic absorption spectrometry with a metal tube atomiser using krypton gas containing hydrogen

Abstract
The behaviour of the atomic absorption signals of silver, aluminium, bismuth, copper, iron, nickel, lead and strontium using krypton with a smaller proportion of hydrogen as the purge gas in atomic absorption spectrometry with a tungsten tube atomiser was investigated. In general, the absorbances of these elements were 1.2- to 2.3-fold higher than those in argon, owing to the lower specific heat and thermal conductivity of krypton. The magnitude of the signal enhancement in krypton was also related to the specific heat of the gaseous metal.
