Model calculations of magnetic-field-induced perturbations and predissociations in 6Li7Li near dissociation

Abstract
A model calculation of magnetic‐field‐induced perturbations and predissociations (scattering resonances) in 6Li7Li near dissociation is presented. The splitting of the 3Σ+u state by an external magnetic field yields field‐dependent interactions (dominated by a curve crossing) between closely spaced, weakly bound high vibrational–rotational levels of the X 1Σ+g and 3Σ+u states near dissociation. Due to the symmetry of homonuclear molecules, there will be no such field‐induced phenomena in the cases of 7Li2 and 6Li2. Since a bound–free–bound transition involving the 3Σ+u state of 7Li2 and high vibrational levels (v?36) in X 1Σ+g 6Li7Li and 7Li2 have recently been observed, experimental observation of these perturbations and predissociations should be feasible.
