Abstract
Atmospheric circulation changes affecting rainfall variations over South Africa are manifested in changes in wind direction frequencies. The relationship between rainfall and wind directions is presented in the form of rainfall 'wind-roses. Circulation changes between the 1963/4-1970/1 dry spell and the 197112-197819 wet spell in the summer rainfall region of South Africa accord with a generalised c1assificatory model of circulation patterns which influence rainfall in this region. Keywords
