Double-blind, Placebo-controlled, Fixed Dose Trial of Minaprine in Patients With Major Depression

Abstract
Minaprine dihydrochloride is a novel psychotropic drug possessing both antidepressant and psychostimulant properties. Prior clinical studies have shown minaprine to be as effective as standard antidepressant agents in the treatment of endogenous depression. The present study examined the safety and efficacy of minaprine at four different doses compared to placebo in 190 outpatients with major depression. Overall, minaprine demonstrated a significant antidepressant action compared to placebo, which was most evident at the maximum dose of 400 mg daily. These data, together with a favorable side effects profile, suggest that minaprine may be an effective antidepressant agent for the treatment of major depression. Frühere klinische Studien haben gezeigt, daß Minaprin ebenso wirksam ist wie die üblichen Antidepressiva, die zur Behandlung endogener Depressionen eingesetzt werden. In der hier vorgelegten Studie wurden die sichere Anwendung und Wirksamkeit von Minaprin bei vier verschiedenen Dosierungen mit Plazebo bei 190 ambulanten Patienten mit endogener Depression verglichen. Zusammenfassend wird festgestellt, daß Minaprin eine signifikante antidepressive Wirkung gegenüber Plazebo hat, am deutlichsten bei der maximalen Tagesdosis von 400 mg. Diese Ergebnisse, zusammen mit dem günstigen Nebenwirkungsprofil, lassen vermuten, daß Minaprin als wirksames Antidepressivum zur Behandlung schwerer endogener Depressionen eingesetzt werden könnte.
