Abstract
The ethyl iodide method of Starr and Gamble is modified to permit detns. of cardiac output to be made at 6 min. intervals. The changes introduced are mechanical. The alveolar air sample is collected by allowing a measured, adjustable vol. of Hg to flow out of a sampling tube during inspiration; the dead-space and the washing-out time are thereby reduced. The samples are transferred to evacuated bottles charged with bromine water, a procedure which shortens the time for analysis of samples. The method, when applied to normal subjects and hospital patients, gives results comparable to Starr and Gamble''s data. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
