Abstract
Vibrational spectra of nine ethylene‐di‐thioketales of various carbonyl compounds (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, aceton and the cyclanones with 5 to 10 carbon atoms) have been investigated. In the frequency region 900…300 cm−1 a number of commonly occuring bands were found, which are considered as characteristic for the thioketale ringsystem. For the simplest member of the series, trimethylendisulfide, a partial assignment of the fundamentals is given, which also supports the assignment for the investigated given thioketales in general. The spectra favour rather clearly the assumption of a non planar skeleton, although no distinction has been possible between symmetries C2, Cs or C1. However the most important conformer has probably symmetry C2.
