Primary Tuberculosis of the Conjunctiva

Abstract
Despite a dearth of statistical data to support the contention, primary tuberculosis of the conjunctiva is considered a rarity in this country. This case is reported because of this apparent low incidence, to keep awareness of the disease active, and to again show the clinical features, therapy, course, and histological features of the disease. Since the case report of Bruce and Locatcher-Khorazo in 1947,1 the foreign literature has had several reports of primary tuberculosis of the conjunctiva.2-18 Fewer cases have appeared in the American literature.19-22 The rarity of this disease, or reports in the literature of it, is, perhaps, partially attested to by the statement that no cases of conjunctival tuberculosis were found among 41,730 patients at Baltimore Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Charity Hospital1; and by the fact that the case reported in this paper is only the second such confirmed by cultures among 139,607Keywords
