Abstract
Relatively sharp peaks were observed in the spectrum of the oxygen ions (O+) backscattered from a palladium surface in the low energy range. The negative ions (O-) which were produced during a collision with the target atoms also showed a peak in their backscattered spectrum and their intensity was larger than that of the neon ions under the same condition. The scattered ion yield, its energy dependence and the angular distribution were different for both charged state oxygens. Origin of the sharp peaks and the difference in the features of the two charged state ions are discussed qualitatively. Keywords
