Abstract
Young and old erythrocytes were isolated by fractional centrifugation from 6 blood conserves. Seven proteolytic enzymes and aspartateaminotransferase were determined in the erythrocytes. The average difference of activities from young to old cells was: aspartate-aminotransferase -72%; leucine aminopeptidase -45%; glycylleucine dipeptidase -36%; glycylglycine dipeptidase -33%; cathepsin -26%; iminodipeptidase -22%; aminotripeptidase -4%; imidodipeptidase +17%. The findings are mainly interpreted as a continuation of the changes which occur during the last phase of cell maturation.
