Release of the Parasitic Wasp, Encarsia lahorensis (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), for Control of Citrus Whitefly (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) on Gardenia in Alabama

Abstract
The parasitic wasp Encarsia (=Prospaltella) lahorensis (Howard) was released into citrus whitefly, Dialeurodes citri (Ashmead), populations on gardenia, Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Auburn, Ala. Introductions failed in Birmingham and Huntsville, but the wasp became established in Auburn in residential areas and test plots. D. citri populations were dramatically reduced after 1 year, and 3 years after release the insect is not a pest in areas where E. lahorensis is present.
