Synthesis of antiviral compounds. Preparation and rearrangement of 6-methoxyglyceropurines

Abstract
The synthesis of 6-methoxypurine and 6-methoxyguanine (11 and 12) derivatives of the glyceropurine series is described. The N-7 guanine derivatives rearrange to the N-9 isomers under certain conditions. The 6-methoxyguanine derivative 12 had a remarkably specific activity against equine herpesvirus.
