Cytology of Certain Labiatae

Abstract
In Monarda fistulosa, M. didyma, and Nepeta calaria, n = 16; in M. punctata, n = 12. In M. fistulosa 1 pair of satellite chromosomes is commonly in contact with the nucleolus at synizesis, the open spireme stages, diakinesis, and interkinesis. A 2nd pair of satellite chromosomes is free of the nucleolus in diakinesis and interkinesis. Similarly, 2 pairs of satellite chromosomes are present in M. didyma and N. calaria. One pair is attached to the nucleolus, the other pair free, at diakinesis and interkinesis. Only 1 pair of satellite chromosomes was observed in the nuclei of M. punctata at diakinesis; it is attached to the nucleolus.
