Abstract
Many strains of Escherichia coli are capable of causing dissolution of fibrin clots. Fibrinolytic activity by cultures of E. coli is independent of the acid-forming properties of these strains. Fibrinolysis by E. coli differs from that produced by beta hemolytic streptococci in several respects, and it is unlikely that a fibrino-lytic substance equivalent to that produced by streptococci is present in E. coli. Fibrinolytic properties are most often found in strains of E. coli most virulent for mice. Keywords
