Abstract
The accumulation of the displaced mass of a landslide is defined as that portion of the displaced mass of a landslide that overlies the original ground surface. The depleted mass is the portion of the displaced mass that overlies the rupture surface but underlies the original ground surface.These terms are useful in discussing the dynamics of landslides. We show that knowledge of the topography and density of the displaced mass before and after sliding can lead to estimates of the coefficient of friction of the sliding mass. A section through the Frank Slide is analysed as an example.Keywords
