Hemorrhagic Enteritis of Turkeys

Abstract
The clinical signs of hemorrhagic enteritis which occurred after a 5 -6-day incubation period, are of short duration. They are: massive hemorrhage into the gut with subsequent bloody droppings; drop in feed consumption, water consumption, weight gain, erythrocyte count, lymphocyte count and heterophil counts. Recovery is rapid. Intestinal contents are infectious only during the day of hemorrhage. The etiology apparently involves a filterable agent (0. 22 [mu] or less) which can be passed serially in a culture of streptococci from intestinal tracts of normal turkeys.
