Abstract
The Onsager‐type theory for nematic ordering described in an earlier paper [J. Chem. Phys. 8 7, 4932 (1987)] is applied to a liquid‐density fluid of hard ellipsoids of revolution, and an accurate calculation that agrees very well with the main features of computer simulations of this system is presented. For larger geometrical anisotropies, the isotropic‐nematic transition properties are in better agreement with simulation results. Keywords
