Abstract
The responses of 8 chimpanzees to 11 patterned string problems were studied. Two strings, one of which was baited with food, were presented and the animal allowed to pull one of them into the cage. The strings were arranged in various patterns, with one string crossing over the other in several of the problems. Seven of the 8 chimpanzees learned all of the 11 problems. One animal immediately solved the most difficult of the problems. The performance of the chimpanzees was far superior to that of monkeys reported by other investigators. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
