AMEBIC LIVER ABSCESS

Abstract
The mode of onset of liver abscess may be masked by symptoms referable to the chest, and it may not always be possible to obtain the amebae for diagnostic purposes. Roentgen films in the upright and decubitus positions, after injn. of air into the abscess cavity following removal of pus, aid in the diagnosis and are of value in following the progress of therapy, as well as finding evidence of rupture into the chest. Therapy, including indications for surgical intervention, is given. Three cases from an army hospital in New York City are described in detail.
