Abstract
A fumigation effect from Thiodan [image] (6,7,8,9,10,10-hexachloro-l,5,5a,6,9,9a-hexahydro-6,9-methano-2,4,3-benzodioxathiepin-3-oxide) was demonstrated in laboratory tests against the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae (Sulz.)). One of the aphids'' most important predators, the convergent lady beetle (Hippodamia convergens Guer.) was more tolerant to Thiodan than the aphids. This may account for its particular effectiveness against the aphids when applied by aircraft. Confinement in a gallon-size jar with 10 ml of Thiodan for 1 hr. immobilized all the wingless aphids. Thiodan was evolved rapidly when exposed to the air. In thin films on glass plates its effectiveness as a fumigant was lost in less than 1 hr.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
