Abstract
This paper discusses the major considerations involved in the issue of urban ground transportation noise. It presents a spectrum of problems, alternative policies and suggested means of implementing higher standards for existing and future vehicles and ground access corridors. That there are existing methods of changing the noise pollution profile of ground transportation systems is the kernel message of this work. When and how this technical knowledge will be implemented, therefore, is the crux of the problem. This paper provides useful insights to those concerned—citizens, transportation experts and officials at various levels of government.
