Abstract
Factors influencing phagocytosis of Brucella suis, strain PSIII, by normal dog blood leucocytes in vitro were investigated. Neutrophiles were more active than mononuclear or eosinophilic leucocytes. Citrate, unlike heparin, inhibited phagocytosis. Formalin-killed organisms were phagocytosed to the same degree as living ones. Twenty repeated washing of blood cells in a modified Krebs soln. containing 3% gelatin did not impair phagocytic activity. A method was developed for titrating opsonin using cells and plasma of the same blood. Keywords
