Abstract
Genetic counseling should be a regular and effective part of any health care program. This survey of 21 families encompassing 24 boys with typical Duchenne X-linked progressive muscular dystrophy demonstrates that genetic information has not been effectively provided to this group. How social workers and others could contribute to an effective model teaching program is emphasized. The ultimate goal is the general implementation of established principles leading to effective preventive pediatrics. Keywords
