Abstract
To the Editor: Recently, we undertook a cross-sectional survey of 813 medical and dental students in order to estimate the prevalence of antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc).1 Seventeen students (2 per cent) were found to be reproducibly reactive for low levels of anti-HBs (defined as a sample [S] to negative control [N] ratio of 10 or less), accompanied by a negative test for anti-HBc. The specificity of this finding has been questioned.1 , 2 In order to examine it further, we asked students with low levels of anti-HBs and a matched group . . .Keywords
