Abstract
Two species of the mucilaginous, putatively primitive genus Acrosymphyton are described from Australia. A. taylorii Abbott is recorded from the Great Barrier Reef (Queensland). Lord Howe Island (New South Wales) and Rottnest Island (Western Australia). Details of its internal anatomy, adventitious filament formation and certain reproductive anomalities are described and illustrated. A. tenax sp. nov. is restricted to the Coffs Harbor region on the northern coast of NSW New South Wales. It differs from the other 4 spp. [A. taylorii, A. firmum, A. purpuriferum and A. caribaeum] of the genus in its large size, firm texture, pseudoparenchymatous (rather than filamentous) cortex, and basally constricted branches. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
