Abstract
The primary purpose of this issue of Chinese Sociology and Anthropology is to make available an extensive survey of the Beijing media audience carried out in 1982 by the Beijing Journalism Association. This poll is the first large-scale media survey in China based on scientific sampling. Indeed, it is the most comprehensive survey research project in China on any subject. There is simply no other resource currently available that provides information remotely comparable in breadth and detail concerning the habits, preferences, and opinions of the Chinese media audience.
