Abstract
67 patients were operated for ectopic pregnancy at the Lucerne gynaecological clinic in the period from 1984-86. The diagnosis was based on Beta-HCG serial determinations, ultrasound and laparoscopy. The possibility of the organ-preserving surgical therapy of ectopic pregnancy, depends on the early diagnosis and the specialized training of the gynaecologist. The pregnancy- and birthrate after conservative and radical surgery was evaluated by means of a questionnaire, which was filled in by 45 women with a desire for children. After an organ-preserving operation, the percentage of pregnancy was high with 75% and 57% birthrate, after removing the organ 59% and 35% only. The number of healthy newborns was considerably higher after the preserving procedure, than after radical surgery. The persistence of trophoblastic tissue is the main complication after tubal conservation in ectopic pregnancy and makes a control of the Beta-HCG level on the fifth day after the operation mandatory.
