The young open cluster Ruprecht 55

Abstract
UBV photographic photometry of 303 stars, to a limiting magnitude of V = 17.2 is used to investigate the young open cluster Ruprecht 55. A distance of 5 kpc with a foreground colour excess of EB–V = 0.58 mag and an age of < 107 yr is estimated for the cluster. Star counts using the COSMOS measuring machine confirm the lack of central condensation of this cluster and it is suggested that Ruprecht 55 may be part of a more extensive association of OB stars.
