Abstract
The dependence of the optical density on the time of exposure to light of a particular wavelength is calculated for a solid photochromic film. The model allows for internal filtering of the activating light. Thermal and photo-reverse effects due to the monitoring light are assumed to be negligible. The solution is given by two integrals which cannot be integrated directly. Integration must be performed by a computer or by using a numerical method. An approximation method is discussed which gives results in close agreement with the computed curves.
