Abstract
Various amino acid analogues were used in an attempt to show that protein synthesis is required for the initiation and continued elongation of excised embryonic axes from Phaseohis vulgaris var.'' White Marrowfat''. Among the compounds studied, only fluoro-phenylalanine and [beta]-2-thienylalanine affected growth. The latter inhibited growth while p-,o- and m-fhioro-DL-phenylalanines stimulated growth. The stimulation of growth by the fluorophenylalanines was reversed by the addiiton of L-phenylalanine.
